A huge leap forward for electric cars: 2026 BMW iX3 UK review

Automobiles

The BMW iX3 is the first of BMW’s Neue Klasse of electric cars. New batteries, new charging capabilities, new interior… new everything, basically. And the result is a rare car – one that genuinely feels like a huge step on. I’ve not felt like this about a new car in probably a decade or so – it’s a game-changer.

  1. OMG, this is the first time I see the 3 seperate screens of the Panoramic Vision in a video. Now I cannot unsee it haha. Already drove the car and never saw it before. The way you filmed it in direct sunlight in the beginning of the video (3:50), it realy looks ugly haha. Normally you don't see the seperate sections and it looks realy high tech.

The HUD option is indeed not realy needed anymore. It also made me feel sea sick or something (or wasted). Don't know how, never had this before on my Audi A4's HUD.
I also drove the 22 inch wheels and would not recommend them. The sound/bonks you get on concrete plate roads is realy not good. Altough bigger rims look cool, you sacrifice comfort for sure.
It's a pitty ventilated seats are not an option (yet).
It's a new trend, not having fabric on the inside of the door pockets. I don't understand not having this on such a expensive car.
From a practicality view, it could be better. No storage space on the back of the front seats, no extra seperated storage on the sides of the trunk (with nets), no 12V socket,….
Why do you still have to open the bonnet with a stupid lever below the steering wheel like an ICE car? Why not with a button on the key fob (Kia EV9), or with a press on the badge (Mercedes GLC). That would be way better.
The plastic begind the hand grip on the inside of the doors was already scratched heavily on my test car (600km). That's realy some bad quality plastic there.

Just a little of my frustrations, but a perfect car doesn't excist. It is still on of the cars on top of my wishlist :-).

  2. I’m still waiting for a modern car without a council house telly.
And less unnecessary decoration! That steering wheel! 🤢
Don’t like the rear lights either.
The 3-Series saloon looks better but is still a bit too high and unfortunately has the same screen and steering wheel options.
That steering wheel looks like it was made with a pair of old telephone receivers.

  3. Having driven a Model 3 for 6 years the one thing that attracts me to this BMW is the range and not having to worry where my next charge is coming from on road trips to distant corners of the country. Just as well given BMWs don't get unrestricted Super Charger access

  4. I’d also argue the HUD is not necessary with the current design of the screens. I’d uncheck that on my ordering form, plus, I’m not a fan of it to begin with.

  5. I like the unusual steering-wheel too. A comment I have though, is that modern steering-wheels only have one grip feature, and that is the indent where you place your thumbs when gripping it.. As to where you can rest the upper parts of the thumbs when not holding it as intended, is fairly common. It’s goes with the connecting design of the indent. Many people think the “alternative” thumb rest is a feature, but it’s not.

  6. Tim, I almost always agree with you; but here we must part. It looks ghastly and the interior is somewhere between the starship enterprise and a horror film. There are no less than 18 (fiddly) buttons on the weapon…, sorry, steering wheel; and more screens than the NYSE trading floor. Is this a car, or a research & development facility? "Keeping your eyes closely on the road" as you look down four times to try and find a button, ANY BUTTON will do!!!! And, as ever, nothing makes sense here – BMW advertise a 108kWh battery, averaging 3.7 to 4.1 miles per kW. Even if we take the upper average, that's only 440 miles. Where has BMW hidden the remaining 60? In a charger, just outside Munich? The best EV database got was 3.4 miles per kW, so 360 miles, on a good day. Which is good, don't get me wrong, particularly at this price point. But if ever there was a case of lies, damn lies and statistics! And then the ride – how can anyone separate with £65k and then describe the ride around town as "jittery"?!!
Keep up the great reviews Tim.

  7. 65k, crazy no wonder BMW are losing the electric car market to the Chinese. Why would you pay 65k for a car that will lose most of its value as soon as you drive off the forecourt. Why would you buy this when you can get a Chinese EV half the price, better quality and better battery.

  8. NOW IT'S THE FRENCH THAT WAS THE FIRST❗ – To display the data under the Windshield, according to the German Auto Vlogger here on You Tube,Thomas from the You Tube Channel Autogefühl say it was the Chinese that was the first, that will drive the other Vlogger here on You Tube from the Channel Buckle Up -Jasper crazy lol💯

  9. Love your delivery and humour Tim, the most entertaining reviewer on YT, I do wonder if millenials get confused with your off-hand comments, hopefully!!🤣 That steering wheel is horrible though 🤮
