The 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross has had a facelift… but does it actually change anything?
In this review, I take a proper look at what might be the most “boring” car on sale today — yet one of the best-selling. From the updated styling to the hybrid engine, interior tech, practicality and real-world fuel economy, this is a car that quietly does everything right.
🚗 Is the Corolla Cross just dull… or is it secretly one of the smartest cars you can buy?

Hardly boring.
No car is exciting.
È molto carina e semplice, solida, affidabile e molto economa nella versione full Hybrid. Bisogna imparare a guidarla e poi ti seguirà per una vita senza tradirti. 😊
Rear seats leg room is not comfortable 😏
Unfortunately the Corolla Cross in not available in the UK – an IDIOTIC decision! It would sell really well. It would be good to compare it to the Renault Symbioz and the Nissan Cash'n'Carry.
It has not a good CX (drag coefficient) and it will not perform well on highways. It's heavy too. If we could just stop with this SUV syndrome…
Boring good😅😅
Hi,
How would you compare it to Honda HR-V and Suzuki S-Cross ?
What would you like more in each car, and finally which one would you prefer overall ?
A big overload on the black. No doubt a reliable car. Nothing much exciting.
Jah toyota, ton op YSTER 🎉 ❤ my favorite car 💯 boss of the road Toyota ♥️ ❤️ 🙌 😎 🎶 👌
It's a car, and the front seats are great! 😀
Remember what a practical car looks like? Looks like a Toyota Corolla Cross.
Have a RAV4 , am looking to change BUT the new RAV4 when it comes will be MUCH too expensive , corolla not an SUV, the CHR is just a tarted up Yaris so the Corolla Cross is the sensible choice BUT BUT BUT they don't sell it in the UK , looks as tho' its the Sp0rtage hybrid or a VW T-Roc
I don't think it looks boring at all. The exterior looks great. Better than cars with dents running along the sides. Toyota keeps it classic. The on,y thing I don't like is the all black interior. Give me a nice tan or even gray.
The car is definitely boring, and noisy, and expensive. At around 40k it's just too expensive. In Japan they sell these at around 20k (you can check the website). Yes, at that price they make sense.
Toyota's reluctance to beautify their interiors with at least a bit of colour and bring more modern exterior designs to their functional , ultra reliable vehicles is driving perspective buyers to the Chinese car manufacturers who seem to be light years ahead when it comes to making car interiors more colourful and a nicer environment for drivers and passengers. However, the one thing lacking with Chinese vehicles is Toyota's reliability, build quality and often bullet proof models like the Corolla, Rav, land cruiser, Camry. Please, Toyota
Please give us some colour in our otherwise, dull boring Toyota owners life.🥱
Reliable & resale, no car can better a carolla on this issue
Having owned the 2L version for a few months now. You can drive it sensibly just A to B and occasionally go in sports mode to make driving a bit more fun the extra power helps! Definitely agree the cvt noise when joining motorways but you get used to it and the moon roof really helps brighten the interior. A bit surprised that the 1.8 gets 6l which is about the same economy I get on motorways but can go down to 5.6/5.7l when in the R and N roads. Really nice to see this car review in Ireland!
We are waiting for the new rav4
People swear by their reliability but they could make an effort with the interior
I bought one about a month ago. Materials are getting cheaper in these but I don't doubt it'll run 300k miles
We will stick with our Honda HRV, Mark!
Cheers Nobby you forgot the moon roof in the sol that really brightens the inside when open, 😊
I tink it’s good so I do!!
I’m 6ft 1. With the seat in my normal driving position the room in the back is non existent.
The estate has far more room in the back.
thats a common issue with CVT gearboxes
It was the same on my CR-V's
You get used to it (nearly)
the interior is still drab
What an ugly and boring car inside out! Glad not available in the UK, although it would probably sell quite well!
And yet they still won’t bring this car to the UK
Got a 252 one love it yes boring but so reliable and economical around town. Cant understand why passenger seat doesnt have lumbar support.
Yes never see a Toyota on a pickup truck.
Im surprised its not sold in the UK. I thought that they wouldnt do RHD without selling it in the UK. Some yrs ago I suggested go Toyota that it would be a good fit for Ireland and it worked out well for them.
I’ve been planning to buy a new car, and during my research I came across your channel. It’s a bit disappointing that Ireland doesn’t have many car reviewers, so I usually have to rely on UK-based channels.
I’m really glad I found your content. It’s refreshing to see reviews focused on cars that are accessible to most people. Your style is clear, concise, and easy to follow, which makes a big difference. Please keep up the great work.
It’s also quite amusing that over the past few weeks, you’ve been reviewing several cars that are already on my shortlist.
Thanks a lot for that!
I moved from chr sport to corolla estate recently. Chr .. loved it. Road noise an issue but I put the best tyres on it and I loved driving it. Tighter handling than corolla. My bug bear with corolla is wireless charging pad is utter crap. Even with case etc off phone. Estate 140hp is plenty. Huge boot space. Toyota upgraded the seats this year and added colour. I love it, few less features than chr but, no show stoppers. I got out of vw as they removed buttons. Depreciation was high on chr, near 6k a year. I've been getting 4.7 to 5.5 ltr/p 100km … will be better in warmer weather. Wife's Rav4 does 5.7 so surprised corolla cross around 6. Secret is to leave them in eco mode. These cars love back roads, hills the more you brake, coast down hills the better the economy.. ultra reliable. I got out of diesel as they cost me a fortune in repairs.
Toyota’s are for people who view cars as white goods. To be fair I can’t blame people for buying them when you look around and see the crap ford is making with wet belts and the amount of bits to go wrong in a modern diesel like EGR valves, DPF and Ad blue systems.
Daily car for commute for 10 years worry free no hassle.
So expensive
Seems strange they didn't bring this to the UK
Agreed lol, extremely bland. I suppose it’s practical but just minimal effort in its design. Fairly outdated interior with cheap looking equipment. But funny enough it’s far from cheap to buy a Corolla cross. Even the face lift is mediocre at best. They need to up their game big time. Although that said, the new RAV4 does look lovely. Be interesting to see the reviews.
I had a CHR for about a year, i didn't love it but by jaysus did it do what you needed up and down motorways not a bother had all the gadgets. My CHR review is everything you have said here!
Its exactly this, it was a car and it drove everything worked. But it was no craic!
It may not be terribly exciting but I don't think it's that bad to look at plus we can't get it in the North yet it was supposed to be the replacement for my Toyota Corolla Trek which is the hybrid estate that I have which has slightly raised ground clearance over the standard Corolla estate by 20mm.
Toyota/ Lexus…
Amazing reliability…
Camry for 12 years. Toyota go forever. People know engine is reliable. Never see a broken down Toyota.
Any sign of you getting a hold of the new Rav 4 for a review
It's had a facelift? It's so boring I didn't even notice 🤣. These appeal to people who just want a reliable A to B car. Nothing wrong with it though, it's functional and does everything you'd want from a car. My elderly Aunt owns one so for that reason I couldn't buy one. Thanks for including the mpg to cater for us who still think old school.
A lot to be said for something that works! No worries about “wet belts” or dodgy infotainment (vw I believe). With the way things are going I’d be quite happy with this!
I don't think people are obsessed about it, they just don't want to have to think about which car to buy. Having said I have owned a 2019 Corolla and I'm not convinced we'll see them on the road in decades to come like we still see Corollas from the 1990s going strong.
