NEW MG4 Urban review: Huge Space, Tiny Price… What’s The Catch?

Automobiles

The new MG4 Urban can be yours for just £21,995 – and it’s bigger than a Nissan Leaf! On paper, it looks like the bargain of the century, beating even the Renault 5 on price. But is there a catch?

In this review, we find out if the new MG4 Urban is too good to be true. We reveal the confusing truth about its name (it’s not really an MG4!), test the claimed 577-litre boot, and expose the “catches” you need to know about before you buy – including the slow charging speeds and how it drives compared with both the regular MG4 and other key rivals.

  1. It's bigger than the regular MG4, but costs thousands less… 🤔

Would you buy one? Or would you choose another EV instead?

    A) Yes! I'll take the space & savings 💰
    B) No! I'd pay extra for the longer range and faster charging of the regular MG4 ⚡
    C) No! I'd buy a Renault 5 or Hyundai Inster 😎

  2. I don’t know why MG have a poor service reputation, I have a 3 1/2 yr old MG5 and have had no issues with the servicing or quality, mine has 33,000 miles and no rattles or problems… my wife drives a 2025 MG 3 which is also a great and very efficient car…… The euro ncap safety issue was a faulty seat restraint on the drivers seat which has already been recalled and replaced…. Again excellent service by MG …. 👍 to MG 😁

  3. MG is creating a mess with the MG4. They could have named this other than MG4 Urban. The regular MG4 was also updated, looks much nicer, has bigger batteries up to 77kWh (weight difference reason), and is RWD. So it's an easy choise…

  4. That will be worth peanuts after 2 years. Good luck trying to sell it . I'd only ever lease one.
That colour would give me a sore head looking at it.

  5. I have the original MG4 and this looks like a totally different car and a pretty boring one style and performance wise. I don't even understand why they called it the MG4 – should have called it something else.

  6. Here's what I have taken from this video. (BTW I do really like this channel and the presenters!!) MG4 Urban is overpriced so they give you a "grant"…… in other words they bumped up the price to knock it down hoping to tempt you. (Price anchoring.) For your 23K you get wheel trims like an 80's Sierra, poor charging, low range, an interior that looks extremely cheap with rock hard plastics, and if you want to jazz the car up a little with a nicer colour you have to pay extra which you will do so you don't look exactly the same as everyone else. Then there's the MG reliability. (Or lack thereof.) Car manufacturers really are taking the pee these days. Oh….and it's a pig ugly thing too,

  7. Good fair review. Why don't you include service schedules and costs in these ev reviews. I asked MG sales and it was all a bit if buts and maybes .

  8. The first MG4 was a really good car, got to expect this one to be improved a bit here and there. According to Chinese reviewers, it has been simplified a fair bit, not always in the best ways, though.
