  1. Lol my mom has this same black 2016 sonic sedan, she came from Phoenix to our hometown peñasco, drove it a couple times and i love it is plain and simple, my sister had a grey 2017 sonic hatch, and im now considering one after i sell one of my pickups to save on gas

  2. What a horrible car went threw 2 turbos leaked from every were no temp gage overheated at the drop of a dime gym should be cursed to hell for that junk

  3. The Holden Barina version looked better. The design was exactly the same, but the brand logo was placed entirely within the top grille section, leaving the bottom half out of the spotlight. It's a tiny change, but it made a big difference. (The RS version looked pretty cool IMO.)

  4. My wife had one of these until she upgraded to a 2023 Corolla xse about a month ago. Hers had Cruise control which takes up the other side of that lopsided steering wheel. She also had power windows, power door locks, remote start, and a screen although it didnt have navigation. Nice to see its low on coolant. I feel like these came from the factory leaking coolant. Something else to note is she had the hatchback and it seems like it had more legroom in the back. I never have trouble sitting in the back of that car and I'm both bigger and taller than you are.

  5. We need more of these plain Jane cars!!!!! However, I think the engine is WAY to big for what the car is. It only gets max 35mpg. If they would have put a smaller engine in, it would have sold better I think if they could get it over 40mpg

  6. Check out the similar Mazda 2 (Scion iA/Toyota Yaris iA). It has a much better interior and drives better (it's a Mazda), but has less power from a smaller engine.

  7. AMEN to the USA needing something like this as a new car today. We desparately need an under 20 grand new basic car. Not a huge truck or SUV that gets 15 MPG. Not some 50 grand medium sized SUV with door to door screens. We need this in both basic gas and EV.

  8. We do need economy cars today. A basic car that doesn't cost a lot to buy, own or insure. A good basic transportation that you could drive the wheels off as a commute vehicle while taking care of your special vehicle so it last. Also some people would rather have a new car with a warranty that they can take care of and keep running correctly instead of buying a used car that may have been used up or abused in some way. My thought of the two types of cars you don't buy used unless you have them checked by someone you trust are cheep entry level cars and sports cars for different reasons. The sports car my have been driven hard, the entry level car might have skipped maintenance. But now there really is not a basic new car anymore, every extra item adds cost and perhaps problems down the road too.

  9. Wow, that was a brutal review: "the Spirit Airlines of the automotive world."

I had a 2015 Sonic (it's the last car I bought brand new) and kept it six years. After looking at every other subcompact car from the time, the Sonic ticked all the right boxes

The Honda Fit felt flimsy and had horrible gearing, the Fiesta was cramped, the Versa felt generic, and the Accent had limited manual transmission availability.

The Sonic rode quietly, handled well, was roomy for my tall frame, and looks are subjective, but I loved the front end styling (reminded me of Angry Birds) and the motorcycle-inspired gauges.

The reason I haven't bought any new cars since is that we're all being steered to crossovers and expensive cars. If the Sonic were still available, I'd grab one.

Oh, and if you had an LT versus this LS, that would've added power windows, power mirrors, upgraded radio, alloys, and cruise control (and a symmetrical steering wheel) and probably made it a better experience

  10. This would be a decent first car for someone today. Modern enough, reliable enough, but not any nicer than strictly necessary. First cars should be crappy to make teens appreciate working up to buy nicer cars when they get older. I like the round lights and the motorcycle-style gauges. GM tried to differentiate it in a competitive market.
Adjusted for inflation this would have been a $21k car, right on par with the base Trax. The Trax is safer, has more features, and gets about the same MPG despite being taller. Basic cars are still around but nothing is immune to inflation.
