The new S-Class: how an icon still defines its class in 2026 | The Walkaround

Automobiles

What makes a car truly timeless? That’s the question Callum Mullin set out to answer as he spent time with the newest edition of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

In this walkaround, the up-and-coming automotive tastemaker explores why the S-Class has always been more than just a flagship. From leaders and creatives to car enthusiasts across generations, it’s a vehicle that has quietly shaped how the world understands luxury, comfort and innovation.

The latest S-Class continues that legacy in a way that feels both familiar and forward-looking. From its illuminated grille and DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps to the calm, sanctuary-like interior, every detail is designed to create a sense of ease the moment you step inside. MANUFAKTUR personalisation, advanced ambient lighting, a refined MBUX experience powered by MB.OS and first-class rear-seat comfort all come together in an environment that feels less like a car – and more like a place to arrive.

Nearly 140 years ago, Carl Benz filed patent DRP 37435 that marked the birth of the automobile. Since then, Mercedes-Benz has continued to redefine what a flagship model can be – with the S-Class often leading the way, introducing innovations that would later shape the entire industry. Today, that heritage meets the present. A place of calm in a busy world. A car that connects generations. And still quietly sets the benchmark time and again.

Watch as Callum takes you through the details, the atmosphere, and the feeling that has made the S-Class an icon for decades.

  1. @MercedesBenz withholding a customer’s legal vehicle documents for months is not just bad service — it’s unlawful. We have repeatedly requested our paperwork and you are legally required to provide it. Release our documents immediately.

  2. A $100K vehicle shouldn’t come with legal issues and dealership negligence. @MercedesBenz your brand is responsible for the experience you allow. Step in and resolve this NOW.

  3. @MercedesBenz a six-figure purchase should come with six-figure customer service — not months of being ignored. This situation is unacceptable and your brand is responsible. Resolve this immediately.

  4. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the true definition of automotive luxury and innovation. Every line of its design reflects elegance, while the interior feels more like a private jet than a car. From the ultra-comfortable seats and ambient lighting to the advanced MBUX technology, everything is built to deliver a first-class experience. Under the hood, the S-Class combines smooth, effortless power with exceptional ride comfort, making every journey feel calm, quiet, and refined. It’s not just a car—it’s a symbol of prestige, comfort, and cutting-edge engineering that continues to set the standard for luxury sedans around the world

  5. No more spirit, no more character. Just plastic and screens everywhere. They removed wood, removed real knobs, removed charm. Bad for health, bad for focus, bad for driving. Welcome to the iPod car era.

  6. too many star logos everywhere especially countlessly on the grill for “the” statement car of mercedes-benz just degrades the brand image as a whole. it already did in my mind. and that illuminated grill.. wow.. it has the most elegant body shape ever and messed up with logo play all over that is worse than gucci. just single illuminated benz star logo standing on the hood could have made the whole thing so satisfying. not now.

  7. The interior is the most hideous of all large luxury cars. It is neither elegant nor stylish. Mercedes is a company that looks as cheap as a kebab shop with a red carpet in front of the entrance and an interior that exudes ostentation from every pore. But behind it all is only the cheapest quality.

  8. 8 minutes fabulous description of the new flagship of the brand … and NOT A SINGLE WORD about the engine! 😮😢
We‘re back in the middle-ages, as you weren’t allowed to speak the name of the devil …

  9. I’m saddened and embarrassed for all German automakers. They are a dying breed. All of these features and with higher luxury are standard in Chinese cars now for a fraction of the price. Safety, reliability, and performance have caught on and surpassed. This is a Nokia moment right here …

  10. Putting Temu LED strips to the emblem doesn't make a car timeless. Putting huge plastic screens with already dated graphics doesn't make a car timeless. But someone down the line will be cursing your "flush door-handles" for a very long time.

Edit: I wonder if anyone from Mercedes actually reads what people think of their design choices. This car is getting hammered everywhere by everyone.
