This is a Motormouth Couple Car Review of the All-New 2027 Toyota Highlander full-EV 3-row SUV.
The 2027 Toyota Highlander EV has a new style, improved comfort and seating for up to 7-passengers. This is Toyota’s first electric three row SUV.
The 2027 Toyota Highlander is built on the TNGA-K platform that was newly developed to house Highlander’s high -capacity battery and maximize passenger space. Toyota prioritized a quiet ride when building the Highlander taking measures to minimize noise, vibration and harshness with acoustic glass and noise absorbing material. In Canada, the 2027 Toyota Highlander will be offered in three trims and in the US two. FWD and AWD options are available with two battery sizes, 77 kWh and 95.8 kWh batteries.
2027 Toyota Highlander FWD models with the smaller battery have up to 458 km/287 miles of range and AWD 435 km/ 270 miles of range. FWD models, 221 combined horsepower and 198 lb-ft of torque. The larger 95.8 kWh battery is AWD only with up to 511 km/320 miles of range, 338 combined horsepower and 323 lb-ft of torque. AWD models can tow up to 3500 pounds, FWD 2600 pounds. This 2027 Toyota Highlander EV is bigger than the outgoing Highlander. It has a lower overall height with increased width and wheelbase. The overall height of 67.3” lowers the roofline by 0.8” compared to the previous model, overall width has increased to 78.3” for an added 2.3” and the wheelbase becomes 120.1” up from 112”, an extra 8.1”. These new dimensions allowed designers to give the model a planted and agile appearance with the wheels set closer to the corners to maximize interior space.
The 2027 Toyota Highlander technology has been updated with a standard 14” touchscreen, 12.3” digital driver display, dual wireless chargers and Toyota Safety Sense 4.0. There is only one bench seat options on the XLE AWD trim, all other trims are equipped with captain’s chairs.
The 2027 Toyota Highlander has vehicle to load capability, it is equipped with the North American standard charging port and has an 11 kW onboard charger. With a DC fast charger, it is capable of charging from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes. It comes standard with a dual-voltage 120V/240V charging cable.
The 2027 Toyota Highlander EV will be built in the US in Kentucky.

The Highlander EV will be made in the US in Kentucky. AWD models can tow 3500 pounds and FWD 2600 pounds.
I’ve been leasing an Bz4x. Lease is up next year. No more EV’s for me. They need an EV with a range of 500 to 600 miles before I buy an all EV vehicle. And charging time of 10 minutes!!
Please use metric system which is standard in Canada and most of the world … I prefer to watch you because of that!
This looks like a ugly mini van, it's gastly 😭 … the edges don't work.
The thing thats a give and take of these "3rd" row seat vehicles is that. at full capacity lets say what 6 people adults/ 7 maybe small kids..you go on a trip…wheres the "luggage" and items go?..so at the end of the day whats the point of having a "3rd Row" when you cant even bring your stuff..theres is no room in the back anymore…haha ski trip/family road trip..adults..even on the safe side each get one luggage.?..can't obviously fit unless you have an external trailer and or roof option..haha
I was waiting for about 2 years for the new Highlander there is no way I am getting an electric I do long-distance traveling all the time and the grand Highlander is just plain ugly
Toyota is so weird about bench seats. Bench seat only available on the XLE AWD. So strange. I agree – A real miss for Toyota
This looks more luxurious than the Lexus TX!
Front looks amazing (10/10), the rear is a 8.5/10.
Looks like the best Highlander ever and may encourage more people to switch to electric. Love the rear wrap around lights.
The most important part is the price.
Exterior and interior is nicer than the Lexus EV models.
Buttons perfect. If only Mazda did that for the new CX-5?
The exterior design is attractive. The powertrain specs and performance are mid. The interior is just OK, nothing stellar. Happy they don’t have the low wheel, high driver display layout. The software and pricing are question marks. I would probably prefer a two row Rivian R2 in a similar price range (I know they are not direct competitors). I would also like to see a Lexus variant of this car, since the ICE TX is somewhat disappointing.
Made in the US? What a shame. On the Canadian boycott list until the big orange fascist is gone.
EV9 and Ioniq 9 are really kicking Toyota in the butt. The electric architecture is outdated on this vehicle
Why no shot under the hood?
Love the look of it and that they incorporated more buttons. It's unfortunate it doesn't have a frunk
Bummer, I guess I won’t be getting another Highlander.
Will be lucky to get 250 mile real-world-range with largest battery, unless there's some real magic with other brands haven't tapped in to.
Love my 2018 Hybrid Highlander – wish they were going to make that a plug in like my wife's Rav Prime!
Having gas is an availability comfort on those long trips.
Is this Dog Friendly?
Will the middle row fold down for additional storage space?
I had to create a gap filler on my 2018 to make the full fold down safe for my BIG dog.
Pretty boring and scantly equipped for something that will be competing against the Chinese EVs and will probably be priced in the $60k – $80k price range. Boring and Toyota used to go hand in hand because of its reliability, but that’s gone away with recent models. I would just save the $30k and get a Chinese EV when they hit the Canadian market. BMW EV owner.
Also, since it’s built in the US, I’ll be boycotting it 100%, due to the fact that they don’t respect Canadian sovereignty.
Does it support bi-directional charging – Car to home or home solar battery?
