Mercedes is the early favourite to win the 2026 F1 title before testing has even begun – and its would-be championship-winning car has now made an impressive debut.

The first images of the Mercedes W17 were revealed on Thursday and it hit the track for a successful shakedown at Silverstone, so we’ve also seen the real thing too.

As we’ll explain, Mercedes has made the best start possible with that maiden run, as it looks to return to title-fighting ways in a season it has long been tipped to be the benchmark.

  1. These cars look gorgeous and a lot more like the 2000s due to the front wings. For me, the rear wing looks a bit too high and/or narrow to be perfect proportions. The intake height maybe too, that’s my only real complaints visually

  2. Mercedes has not had a winning car designed since they bought the Championship winning team from Brawn GP. That car gave Mercedes all of its success since 2009, it was not Toto! So not expecting much from Mercedes again this year!

  3. I wish the FIA would stop being so constrictive, let the teams design their cars and stick to looking after the driver/team and supporters safety. If a team can create a beast of a car let them get on with it, let them loose with innovative ideas and designs as long as they are safe. Give them the chance to use V8/10 or a smaller engine with electric power let them design the heck out of it. Cut the rule book down and give them a basic geometry to follow and an engine choice, then leave the buggers alone. If you want the fastest most awe inspiring cars in the world give them the chance to do it.
