2026 Ram Rebel Hurricane Review.

In this video I take a deep dive into my 2026 Ram Rebel after real world driving and miles on the truck. I wanted to wait before doing a full review so I could evaluate the powertrain ride quality interior usability and overall build instead of giving first impressions that change after ownership.

I make a bold claim in this video and I stand by it. I believe the 2026 Ram Rebel with the standard output Hurricane engine and ZF 8 speed transmission is the best half ton powertrain on the market today. That does not mean it is perfect and it does not mean it will be the most reliable truck ever built but compared to the current competition this setup makes the most sense to me.

I walk through the exterior design including the Canyon Lake color that changes dramatically depending on lighting. I cover the steel bumpers recovery hooks skid plates suspension layout and driveline protection. I also look underneath the truck to show what Ram did well and where I think they could improve especially for off road and long term durability.

On the road I test acceleration braking highway manners and overall smoothness. Even at elevation the standard output Hurricane pulls hard and delivers far more power than most people will ever need in a half ton. More importantly it does it quietly and smoothly without drama. The ZF transmission is one of the biggest reasons I chose this truck and it continues to be a standout compared to other half ton transmissions on the market.

I also talk honestly about modern engine complexity turbocharged platforms oil temperatures oil viscosity choices and long term ownership considerations. If you are shopping half ton trucks and care about powertrain reliability ride quality towing behavior and interior usability this video is meant to give you a realistic ownership perspective not marketing fluff.

This is not a paid review and no manufacturer had input on this video. These are my opinions based on ownership driving experience and research. Feel free to disagree in the comments and tell me what truck you think is the best half ton in 2026.

Thanks for watching and I’ll keep updating this truck as the miles add up.

  1. Bought a 25 bighorn sst with the off-road package, and its been flaw-less, drove 35 hours round trip to Halifax and it ran like a charm, so far its a great truck, couldnt be happier.

  2. I have a 2025 1500. With less than 5000 miles I had a check engine light go on. Apparently there is a known error that may occur again, but they will run a small leak verification test to see if it isn’t actual a real code. The dealership cleared the code, and told me to hope it doesn’t come back. I also had very rough downshifts in the low gears, and after a bit of convincing the dealership reprogrammed the transmission. That improved that particular issue. Wonderful driving truck with decent gas mileage given the size, I’m just frustrated I have to rely on hope for a check engine light

  3. I agree if Buying one now it would be a Ram, Just for warranty! I have to ask have you read the owner’s manual does it allow changing the oil viscosity? I’ve heard you get a code for oil too thick if you change the viscosity.

  4. bought a 2026 warlock. its a beast. i wanted the lonestar but got scared with all the tech issues companies are having. im so glad i did. i love my truck. i didnt get the hemi and do not regret it.

  5. What big suv would you then recommend. A 26 Tahoe, a 26 Expedition, or a 26 Grand Wagoneer? I’m in need of one and dang they are expensive. Any year used ones recommended?

Hard to decide with all the engine and transmission issues lately.

  6. My problem with these trucks and this is more the hurricane in-line is supposedly they don’t come with a dipstick? Seriously everybody’s supposed to rely on sensors. What’s next tires with no valves so you have to go to the dealership to get them aired up?

  7. I agree the Rebel pkg is a relatively good value (considering no truck is a good value anymore as they are all way over priced and unreliable) but for 90% of truck buyers an off road pkg is completely useless. If you are going off road or even just like the look that's great but otherwise you are basically paying more money to get worse MPG and more road noise and IMO an uglyier truck. BTW the canyon lake 'color' is basically shiney primer. Color of course is a matter of personal preference but all these dull grey colors are hideous and just tie into the latest manufacturer scam of charging for any color other than white or tomato red. Like they aren't screwing us enough that they need to charge another $600 to choose a color you actually want??

  8. I have a Tundra with the 5.7 and the 4:30 rear end. Gas mileage is horrible, I knew that going into it. Can I get the tow package with the 3:55 or does it only come with the 3:90? What's the approx gas mileage (ballpark) with you setup?

  9. Man, that’s a great looking truck, but if I’m holding back on buying a turbo engine from Toyota, I’m damn sure not gonna buy a Stellantis turbo 😂
