5. They should have kept the last Gen body style, get rid of the CVT, and go back to a automatic transmission, and add an option for a 6 cyl engine, and a manual transmission.

6. well it's not a hybrid? Then tough to compare to 2026 rav4.. a bit like apples and oranges. Also, long-term reliability is where the delineations come in among all these models. How many serious repairs after 10 to 15 years of ownership. Quite honestly don't understand anyone who views reliability any other way. Can't complain about inflation as long as we are a throwaway society – lease for a few years, replace and repeat. That's not long-term and is a good way to get declining quality. As for more immediate concerns, the thing that i find really unacceptable is when the hybrid models do not have a spare tire. Unfortunately that is true of the subaru crosstreck as well as the corolla cross, which leaves a certain class of buyers completely stranded and not able to choose the vehicle that they would. The dumbest way i've ever seen to lose customers. Next level, rav4, is significantly more expensive and too big for such buyers. STUPID.

8. This is something i would buy.
   I absolutely hate powered tailgates, most useless thing on modern cars, i wish that could be opted out on every car.
   Speakers can easily be upgraded and would sound better than the harman kardon, for less money.
   Seat heating can also be installed later, with real buttons instead of touchscreen controls.
   Window tint is a must, but also easily done aftermarket.

11. QUESTION! I have a 2025 Ascent and want to know if you think this 2.4 turbo engine will be very reliable and go 250,000 plus miles with proper maintenance? I am here in SATX. 18,000 miles so far with zero issues averaging 23.8 MPG to date.

12. Thanks this was a nice review. The Base Forester is affordable but after nearly 20 years in Subaru, as a Finance Manager and owning/driving four of them, I think the Premium is the better overall value.

    Lower cost or being cheaper is not really the same as “value”! The difference in cost between a Base or Premium Forester divided over 8-10 years is minimal compared to added safety and convenience features you get in the Premium. When leasing, the Premium trim may have higher residual and it is usually the trim level in advertised low cost leases.

13. I didn’t think they still did the dual screens lol. Pretty crazy to still see that in some trims.

14. Compared to the Canadian base trim, which is called Convenience, this base model is missing out on a lot of nice features, including heated front seats, X-mode, and rear USB ports. USA buyers should be aware of these.

15. My biggest gripe is that this lacks the shiftable transmission of higher models. The PRNDM is a MUST for serious mountain driving.

17. Ditch the key Subaru!!! I can live with the rest as is, other than the windows… I would get all the windows tinted at 35%. I love how that look is having all the windows be the same tint percentage.
    I did that on my base Mazda CX 30 and it’s a great look, especially in the white just like this Forrester.✌🏻

19. With no tint on the windows, the inside of the car warms up very nicely on a cold winter day. Who needs heated seats😊. I like it that they give you a cover for the cargo area, they didn't use to give that to you on the base model.

20. The storage container backdrop really adds to the base model flair.

21. Excellent review. That's the exact model I have been looking at online. I think it would be perfect for road trips and car camping.
