2. I often wonder how come the perception of reliability of these cars differs so much between Australia/US and Europe? Is it the climate, the dealers, the owners or do they come from different assembly lines? I’m on my 3rd A8/S8 and don’t recognise the remarks. My current car is an S8 from 2013, fully loaded (first owner was Audi design studio) which I bought in 2018 with 85K km on it, modified it with cool air intakes, downpipes with high flow sport cats and a tune. It produces 710hp and 1020 Nm and I use it as a daily driver. It’s now on 230K km and I never had any of the mentioned issues with it.

   Every time you fellas bring up a british cars and any time I see people talking about them its always how its the best car they have ever owned aside from the multiple thousands or even tens of thousands of repairs they have had to do.
   Seems to be european cars from many nations have this problem but the british manufacturers have another level of diehard, maybe aussies nostalgic about the old island dont know.

Continentals prices are rock bottom, retaining what value are we talking about? 😅 Servicing at the main dealership makes no sense here, but servicing and the indy Bentley specialist does – if you have one around you! They know these cars well, they use genuine parts and charge way less than the md. Indy specialists of all brands is the way to go for old, out-of-warranty cars.

17. My 2014 Tesla Model S, so an early model, has just short of 300,000Km of quite reliable motoring. The biggest bill so far was circa $3k for a replacement centre screen to bring it up to date and support 4G. It’s also had a replacement battery heater, about $2.5k but the rest were just minor things that cost less than $1,000. The suspension is original and still working, the paint and interior still look good, but I look after these. Biggest risk apart from the battery is a rear drive unit failure which is $10k for a new one which compares favourably to the cost of a replacement engine in any other luxury car. The car is 11+ years old and last week a woman made a point to complement on what a beautiful car I owned and it still turns heads. Think I’ll keep it for a while longer.

20. Normally with reviews I find a lot to disagree with as I’ve owned thousands of vehicles, yes thousands. I actually laugh when I see someone driving a Maserati, sometimes I watch a minute to see if it crosses through the intersection without breaking. I will say the 3.0t Audi you said was not bad, is I’d say a very good engine for reliability and good power. Does idle a bit rough comparatively though.

21. I have had two of the cars mentioned, a 2000 S500 and a 2012 Jag XJ 5.0 Supercharged. Both were 1-2 owners before me, the S500 had 120km and the XJ had 90km on it. I did around 80km in the S500 and around 30km in the XJ. Serviced each one every year, the XJ at main dealer.

    The S500 had the normal air suspension issues. You can either retrofit coilover or buy the air shocks etc out of Germany OE way cheaper. The OE air sus parts guys also do Bentley etc.

    The sunroof XJ issue is limited to build date up to around Sept 2012. Why? Unbeliveably electrolysis due to inadequate coating separating the steel sunroof frame and the aluminum body. Fixed at the factory by adding more coats. I would suspect other JLR products of the same era may have the same issue at the sunroof and elsewhere on the body. The XJ also needed engine mounts as the engine was pulling itself off a vacuum line and the engine would die. Also needed exhaust hangers which if fail will melt your bumper.

    Cheapest car for maintenance I had had , Ferrari 360 F1, worst by miles Mercedes SLS Roadster – that car I still have but have spent around AUD$120t in the shop, main dealer and independant, last 3 years. Each time I get it it breaks down within 10 to 100km.

23. I can't remember when I've hear such rubbish! All foreign cars anything to do with it? Somebody once had a suspension problem with a Bentley so all Bentleys are bad! etc etc . What would you recommend, something Australian? Hahahahah! No doubt you'd have everybody driving Fords …. or worse!

24. 7 series E66 v8 4.8 liters. Big end bearing failure. That engine massively expensive. I replaced the engine. Then sold it. They have no notch in the bearing cap and tend to rotate and then seals the oil hole. Discovery 4 had same issue. Speaking discovery’s in general and relevant to the modern ones. The perceived reliability issues mainly relate to fault codes. If Land Rover stopped limp mode for exceptions like low oil; low coolant and maybe a couple more it would be on tow trucks less.
    Jag – build quality is crap. It’s a plastic fantastic. It was made to fail. It looks the part; but the engineers didn’t do their part.

    Best engine for me at a great value is the VW Touareg 3.0 TDI. Great power and great reliability besides the emissions issues all euros have.

25. Luxury cars that you shouldn’t own is not the video we need. I leave almost every one of your videos thinking I should avoid that one. The extra videos you should produce are the used luxury cars you should consider.

    This would be great for every category. The “worst of” videos has me thinking back and concluding everything else just missed the list.

    I am not saying I don’t appreciate hearing the truth, it is just hard to figure out what is the best.

32. I retired after working on MBs for 34 yrs. You definitely don't want to own one. Their quality has seriously declined while maint cost have tripled over the yrs. Their new 260 series 4 cyl engines have a major design flaw. They don't have hardened valve seats. I saw cars with 50k having 3 cylinder heads replaced. That's 20k before the 1st oil change is due. What's even worse the replacement heads have the same problem as the failed ones. MB is using a lot of warranty extensions to cover up their problems. Warranty extensions don't require the manufacturers to correct the problem only to do the repair. Once the extension time and/or miles are exceeded, the customer is stuck with the defect because the repair parts have the same defect.

And with all due respect guys the v6 jag petrol engine in xj is not a cut down version of the V8 4.2 it was a Porche design that Ford bought the rights to and made it the Ford Vtech engine, The Jaguar V8 is not a Ford engine as a lot of people think, the Jaguar AJ 33 and 34 series engine is a proper Jaguar desighned and built engine, Thankyou

Fellow Aussie here from far North Queensland, retired had bit of super and decided to treat myself, i love Jags i mean old school so i had a budget of 50 grand back in 2019 world my oyster didnt just look at Jags, being an old bloke dont care much for more modern stuff for various reasons, months of research and trying different makes of Luxery barges (i wanted a Luxery Barge) i loved most of them including the X351 xj portfolio was spoiled for choice, at the time although the 351 was great it didnt appeal to me aesthetically and was a bit dubious about cost of upkeep, heres the crazy bit, i spotted a 2003 XJ8 4.2 in BRG on Gumtree, 90000ks 1 owner everything done to it that needed doing, 30grand, went to Rocky on the train, took her for a drive and fell in Love!😂 Drove her back to Cairns next day, of course not everyone is going to have the "Luck"? ive had with this girl but im so glad i did what i did! I Just bloody love her, ive kept up the servicing and really looked after her, she hasnt cost me an arm and a leg and concidering she was my Daily until i got a small 2nd car recently, Shes been magnificent and very reliable but of course thats not everyones experience, any luxo barge has the potential to break the bank and your heart😂 ps the design of x351 has grown on me but i still wouldn't have one, Cheers guys very interesting chats!👍

42. W140 s class can be a nightmare. Even the one you showed has different coloured doors so has been repainted.

    w140 was past the turning point of over engineering for performance perfection rather than reliability
