2026 Nissan Leaf | Wrong Place, Wrong Time

Automobiles

We discuss and review the new 2026 Nissan Leaf EV. Nissan was one of the first to do affordable EVs in the United States, with the average buyer of EVs moving up in age and income, will Nissan be able to convince the mainstream that this is for them? Others to consider are the Ioniq5, Tesla Model Y, and Toyota BZ.

  1. This is a vehicle for people who are not car enthusiasts (most people), just need transport, and can home charge. Probably an ideal 2nd car in a lot of households. Not a bad looking car; Leaf Mk1 and Mk2 were ugly.

  2. EVs can be cheap and good, but they're not cheap and good in the U.S. because of tariffs. The pace of innovation in China driven by fierce competition between EV makers is simply mind-blowing. In countries fully exposed to the Chinese car industry you can buy an EV two segments up from the Leaf packed with the most amazing tech for mid-20s. Meanwhile, behind the tariff wall you're paying 50% more than you should with a very restricted range of options.

  3. wait a year, buy used for much much less, and don't buy in cold climates. anyone buying this now will get hosed on depreciation. Unless you have a shit FICO, in which case Nissan maybe your only game in town

  4. It’s not that Americans don’t want EV, they’re just unattainable. With everything going on now, more than ever. The older leafs just don’t have the charging support.

  5. Americans are currently being reminded about gas price fluctuations due to Middle East adventures, this might just be at the right time.

  6. Most important thing I came away from this was the question of did Mark half build the Titanic Lego set only to display it sinking? Bravo. If I had unlimited space, I'd love to take that a step further and put that set right in an aquarium.

  7. Kind of between a nissan leaf and going all EV for my wife's car or a toyota prius plug in as the ev range on the prius more than suites her needs and having the gas engine for longer trips or when she innevitably forgets to charge it would be a great way to go.

  8. It is NOT necessarily more areo. Don't confuse Cd for CdA. You need to multiply the coefficient by the cross sectional area, and going from 0.29 to 0.26 is likely not enough to offset the larger body.
Also it's just a Renault Megane styled like a Renault Rafale, they just save money by re-skinning an existing model
