I just spent a full week testing the highly anticipated Geely EX5, and let me tell you… the spec sheet lied! In this comprehensive Beyond EV review, we dive deep into whether the real-world performance matches the hype and how it stacks up against the likes of the BYD Atto 3 and the Jaecoo J5.
The Geely EX5 has just been updated with the new Geely EX5 Extended Range which goes from a 60.22 kWh LFP battery up to 68.39kWh.
Inside, Geely has packed this electric SUV with tech, including a massive 15.4″ HD Multimedia Display and a 10.2″ LCD Instrument Cluster. But is the software actually user-friendly, and how does the Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS) hold up in daily traffic?
Whether you’re watching from Australia, sizing up the new NEV landscape in Southeast Asia, or navigating the EV import market in Canada, this video covers everything you need to know before putting your money down.

This is a budget car in the Chinese market. The Atto 3 are often used as share ride vehicle, like the Aion Y. This one is also in the same class. The price is roughly 50% more than in its domestic market. For this price equivalent, one could possibly buy one size up in China, plus more tech thrown in.
Great video mate
Chinese companies never advertise about performance, even when they have 500-600hp. Chinese government orders the industry to be responsible! Only vehical l see advertising about speed and performance is BYD company with the U9 sports cars, and it’s mainly the jumping suspension.
This car could fit space saver, why don’t they supply it ?
100kw DC would seem low, when is the build date on the vehical, factory getting rid of stock year old stock ? Alway check build date on every vehicle you look at, so you know what month and year it’s built. Could be year+ old model build.
why does it say 280km of range at 77% when its supposed to have 475km total range?
Music in transitions is too loud, otherwise great video
Is this better than the BYD Sealion 7 Premium, which can be found for under $50k drive away?
How long does it cost to get parts from china ,???
Went to buy one of these two weeks ago almost said yes until I noticed single zone ac . Well I not had a car with single ac singe 1999. It was like what is wrong with you people to make such a mistake for European markets we just want accept single zone even on a city car
How does the backseat leg space compare to BYD sealion 7?
Thanks for the revue Dave. Not for me as this is a FWD EV. After having owned an Atto 3 for nearly 4 years, I am not going to replace it with another. EVs must be RWD.
what else will they lie?
When this first came out last year, I did not like its ride (too soft) and the reverse beep that sounded like an ice cream van. Have they fixed both issues?
Good review. I’ve had my EX5 for a couple of months. I’ve already done a long interstate trip in it and it was very comfortable. One thing I wish Geely had done was install a 12 V socket in the boot. On a long trip I take a small fridge and a 12 V socket would have saved me from having to carry around another power source for the fridge. We had plenty of luggage space for the two of us with the rear seats down.
The gross Navy interior kills it for me. Just give us black and white options. Navy reeks of fake leather.
Hiya "Geely" Dave, I am "Jaecoo-J7-Summit" Marcus. I was a little apprehensive at first, after I tried the Starray and Ex-5 last year.
I will confess that I would like a higher load rating in *all BEV and PHEV vehicles.* I do understand about weight and the energy cost to move it.
So a family of "human" elephants need to find a new class of car, not these cars.
Thank you for the lay-down "camp" mode. Not a "Sandman Van" but getting there… A very useful feature. Other cars seem to feature a parked air-conditioner, pet comfort mode.
Kind regards, Marcus.
Thank you for your review, I wonder if it coming with cruise video recorder?
Nice review mate
