How can you say 8.5 is good economy? I get between 6-7.5 from my MG HS 1.5 petrol auto when driving normally. If I drive fast and accelerate heavily it drops to around 8.. And the MG is a larger car!
This engine is brilliant. My friend bought a Tiggo 8 with this engine and it really loosened up after about 5000 kms. The fuel consumption also got better. We drove down to CapeTown from Joburg, with 4 adults and all our luggage, and we averaged 7.3 litres per 100kms which is excellent. Overtaking was absolutely the most surprising thing for me. It pulls so damn well and continues to do so even high in the rev range. The engine is also smooth and refined. They have done just over 70,000kms in 2.5 years and have zero issues. For comparison, we have a 2022 Toyota Rav4 with the 2 litre naturally aspirated engine. It has 127kw versus the Chery's 145kw and a rather pathetic 202nm versus the Chery's 290nm and you can definitely feel it. On the same trip with the Rav4 in the same conditions (4 adults and luggage same time of year etc), we averaged just over 8 litres per 100kms. So bad considering the Chery is a heavier vehicle. I can also confidently say that the Chery is quieter, more refined, smoother and more comfortable. Our Toyota has what feels like excessive wind noise compared to the Chery and quite a bit more road noise. And the engine noise! Oh, the engine noise. You need to rev the Rav to 6k rpms to overtake and it needs to gear down even on the slightest incline due to the lack of torque. The worst part is that the Rav4 2.0 CVT VX Auto is R720k brand new. Meanwhile this Omoda is R590k. The Toyota is nowhere near R130k better, In fact, I would even say the Toyota should be cheaper when you consider the fact that the Chery is simply better in literally every single way.
as a family car, can i switch on a light for the rear when using the baby seat?
More good value from China. More trouble for the legacy brands.
Not sure about the looks- maybe darker colors work better
Canβt seem to find a local review of the SHS. Pity
This has to be one of the best-looking cars from China. Test drove it and I was really impressed. It's very comfortable and the engine is very responsive as you mentioned. My only wish is an all-wheel drive version but ey, it's still pretty damn good. Thanks for the great reviews Dennis π€π½
Great review, cheersππΌ
Insurance companies are going to love replacing that bumper after a little fender bender
"Chinese wooosh" π I heard it too…
Too many gimmicks with this car
budget Mercedes
Nice car this,I test drove it at Centurion. Very smooth car with sufficient power. Audio system was my only issue.
My boet, I just ordered the SHS β€π
I always thought this car was ugly until I saw it in person and was impressed. It looks very comfortable too.
