NEW Mercedes GLC Electric review – Better than a BMW іХ3?

Automobiles

In this new Mercedes GLC review, we drive the fully electric version of Merc’s bestselling SUV for the first time! Starting at around £60,000, the new GLC EV faces incredibly tough competition from the BMW iX3 – our 2026 Car of the Year – and the upcoming Volvo EX60.

To see if the new electric GLC can keep up, we’ve flown to Portugal to put it through a rigorous 150-mile real-world efficiency test. We experience its unusual Porsche Taycan-style two-speed gearbox, examine the enormous Hyperscreen infotainment system, and crunch the numbers to see how far the GLC can really go on a single charge.

  1. The new electric GLC has an official range of up to 405 miles, but rivals like the BMW iX3 and Volvo EX60 are claiming 500+ miles! 🔋🚙

How much official range do you actually need to feel comfortable buying an EV?

    A) 300 miles is plenty – I mostly drive around town! 🏙
    B) 400 miles is the sweet spot for a family SUV ⚖
    C) 500+ miles or I’m sticking to petrol/diesel! ⛽

  2. The interior is kind of like Mercedes not understanding what's important for the users and then going for it because that's what they think the Chinese want.

  3. Wow what were Mercedes Benz thinking with design? Omg that is quite an ungainly looking thing. The front end is really awkward 😬.
Also what is with the eye watering prices.

  4. @6:50 Can the passenger plug-in headphones into the infotainment system or play the audio through another device so the driver doesn't hear it? Some drivers would rather have a passenger watching a movie rather than constantly chatting while they drive.

  5. Not a fan of that massive hyperscreen and the passenger screen. I find when driving these days I want to have as minimal interaction with screen as possible as they everywhere else in our lives (work, home, etc.)

  6. Mercedes obviously keeping their powder dry with this release whilst they busily work on a new exciting design language because this is so draab and looks like every Merc SUV from the past decade and those disco lights at the front scream "tacky'.

Be a great used by tho.

  7. Screen is a gimmick, waste of money. At that price air suspension should be standard. The Germans love an optional extra.
The grill is so tacky. It does look better than the BMW with its rodent teeth grill.

  8. Mercedes and BMW have swapped places; Mercedes now makes the ugly one and BMW has become stylish again…
And even your average screen is too big for me. I don’t want pink lap dance club lighting and a screen instead of a dashboard.
    I think I’m going to buy a W124.

  9. I don't understand why EVs need to have a front that doesn't incorporate a beautiful grill which would be far less of a marmite feature. Why risk turning off some potential buyers for what after mass production would be something quite cheap to add. The full length screen idea whilst not perfect is better than BMW's latest idea of having a full length but narrower screen along the base of the windscreen.

  10. Also the iX3 was on the least efficient 22” wheels that according to BMW drop the range by 10% over the standard wheels, so that 2.9kW/h could have been 3.2kW/h on 20” alloys.

  11. Run the configurator. Fully spect Volvo 80k, BMW 84k and Mercedes 94k Euro in The Netherlands!!! No way Mercedes with the shortest range will sell well.

  12. That gaping front is UGLY …. Ill take the iX3. Oh jeez. The dashboard 🤮…..like a Dixons window front….i guess it will appeal to those of dubious garish taste. What happened to Mercedes being the classy option 😢

  13. Wait 12-24 months and you'll pick one up 2-nd hand for less than half price, Wait another 1-2 years and it'll be worth less that 10k LOL

  14. Better option for the passenger screen distracting the driver is to just not have it in the first place. It’s actually another way to make the car cheaper to manufacture. Slap another relatively cheap screen there instead of designing an actual dash.

  15. THOMAS – great guy, obviously gives a patriotic push for MB+BMW. Unfortunately, Germany for political reasons, decided to produce cars in the area of non-combustion propulsion and trying to compete with Chinese manufacturers premiums on battery tech as well as silly screens everywhere, at 200% + premiums. By selling out their own hard-earned brand equity and alienating a customer base, they are now on the verge of bankruptcy, producing hugely overpriced vehicles with features that their loyal customers truly detest. AND at insane prices. What's the point of buying this over Chinese offerings at under half the price and with a 7-year warranty?? All brand identity is gone, THE CROWN JEWELS of any company, and FOR WHAT??? Another ME2 SUV, hopelesly overpriced. Feel so sorry for German car manufacturers, all dying of ( not so) slow death. Worried it's already too late, market backlash is so obvious. No company survives by selling products that are explicitely against customers wishes even if ideologically pushed by goverment. So so sad. I am previous owner of A8 W12, S Class w220. Phaeton, Golf Plus etc. Current owner og Q7 2016/A207 2011, peak of German car period. SORRY…
