The G70 is a precision instrument hiding behind a 3.3-liter marketing problem. We find out if the value G70 2.5T is actually the smarter driver’s choice.
Horsepower often masks a lazy chassis. While the marketing team wants you to chase the 365 HP V6, the real story is in the 180 lb weight reduction over the front axle of this 2.5T. That mass difference transforms the G70 from a heavy sport sedan into a precise instrument that actually rewards trail-braking and mid-corner adjustments.
We diagnose the 2.5L turbo’s usable torque curve (311 lb-ft at just 1,650 RPM) and why Genesis including 4-piston Brembo brakes as standard equipment signals their intent for this specific trim. We also dive into critical owner intel regarding front brake vibration fixes and the reality of the Genesis dealer experience.

For those of you already living with the 2.5T: have you experienced the front brake vibration yet, and did you stick with OEM pads or swap to semi-metallics? I’m reading every comment for more owner intel.

I have a ‘24 Sport Prestige. I get 25 MPG in the city and 33 on the highway measured at the pump. My previous car was a Mustang GT. I chose this over the V6 because I couldn’t tell much difference in city acceleration and wanted better MPG. This is a terrific handling car!
Are those the OEM tires on the car? For some reason the rear tires look less wide than the 255/35/19 Michelins on my '23 G70 3.3T. Those look like 225's ?
I own a 2023 G70 with the 3.3T and had a brand-new loaner G70 with the new 2.5T, and I'll say this. Just general driving there's not much of a difference. In fact, I genuinely wasn't sure which engine it had when I casually drove the loaner back home. But once I went in the range of over 1/2 throttle to flooring it the next day, there is of course a significant difference where I knew right away it was the 2.5T. If your someone who always or mostly drives casually, then yeah, save your money and get the 2.5T. For a car-guy like me, there was no question that I was getting the 3.3T, even though it's just my daily driver and I already have a "fun" summer car which is an 825 hp mustang.
You are delusional. The ONLY advantages this has over the 3.3t model are weight and price. The bigger turbo 6 delivers 376 ft. lb. at EVEN LOWER revs than the 2.5 4 pot. In no universe does the 4 pot deliver "more usable" power. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 That said, I have driven the 2.5t in the current G80 and it was absolutely fine there. While you don't "need" the bigger motor, sport-luxury purchases aren't about need to be begin with.
I wish it came in a na v6.
Great review, covered my exact question, which one 2.5t or 3.3t! Only thing I still wonder about is RWD? I prefer front wheels to only steer but AWD has some benefits ( i dont need to drive it in snow). Any thoughts as my first choice is RWD.
Wasn't this the same story as the old Genesis Coupe?
I just rented one this past weekend and put over 1000 miles on it. 14k miles and I told my wife this will be my next car.
Thx…I've got the 2020 GT line stinger (sun & Sound pack) and agree that the lighter front end likes to turn in and steering feel is great! Long road trips are comfy and quiet too! Know I'd miss all the cargo space…Last long trip all highway got 37 MPGs. (59,000 miles) There's a 2025 G70 base 2.5 near me with 18,000 Miles for $31,000….deal or not?? Thx again!
Thank you for the more interesting choice to review and share. YouTube common taters smear grease on Hyundai/KIA because they want to feel smart. I would like to see some side-by-side long term comparisons between the established luxury brands and the “new kids” from 0 to 150k miles, compiling costs for routine maintenance, repairs and downtime waiting for service. HK is gaining steadily on its competitors. I see many high mileage examples of Toyotas, Hondas and Mazdas while I sit in traffic each day. But I am seeing more and more older HK’s from 2000’s. Haters and naysayers are REALLY going to be stymied with the growing number of EV’s reaching 200k on the original battery. Cars can be art, but most are equipment. Find the one that works for your criteria. Cheers!
I like the more analog interior and gauges.
Could you explain steering lock, pedal progression, whatever those brakes are, dampers? I think you would have a broader appeal if you explained more about what you’re talking about and why it matters.
Had a 2.5 rental and was pleasantly surprised. Excellent MPG
WOAH DRIFTING LUX IN SNOW
Bro is drifting a brand new luxury car in the snow. What a savage
Loved both of my G70s. Great cars
Closest dealer to me is Hyundai – i won't deal with this vehicle strictly based on that. It looks nice though.
I really wish that 2.0 Manual Transmission version from a few years back was better executed. The manual less engaging then my 2014 Mazda 6’s and the clutch was awkward. Ended up adding a Miata for RWD fun.
I will never ever buy a Genesis, I will never buy a Turbo and will never buy direct injection. Unless Genesis puts an inline 6 naturally aspirated engine with port injection then will may consider this brand. Overall, Genesis is a failure as a brand.
A coupé version would be stunning and easier to accept the small backseat.
Out of all the cars in this segment, the g70 and 3 series are the best dynamically. I myself got a Stinger because it fit my monthly budget better then a m340i. 3.3, rear LSD, big hatch, decent back seats, all the tech you would want. I had the same brake issue on mine, swapped the pads for Bosch pads after replacing the rotors under warranty and the car has been flawless. Drive train wise, I still think the M340i is the better pick, but as an overall package and price wise, Korea is making some great rwd chassis cars and I cant wait to see what they make in the future.
These are great value 1 or 2yrs old.
Great review but one correction; The 2.5 Smartstream engine is both direct and port injected. The prior base 2.0 Theta from 2019 to 2023 was direct inject.
🙏🏽 I was shocked when I drove a used Genesis and realized this thing is still a secret? Impressive
Woohoo… we got a genesis g70 review. Now can we see the 2026 3.3t version? Please
No, absolutely not better than the v6
Throughout my life I've had all types of cars. From Mercedes, BMW (complete money pits), Audi to Fords (the worst), Chevys and Dodge. And the only cars that never had me worrying about what's going to break next was a Volvo XC 60 and a Genesis G70. But you'll have people that have never own one talk about how unreliable a G70 is. With that said…yeah the brake pads do suck and they do cause shaking.
Thank you for a good honest review.
Good review. Nice car.
Keep'er between the mayonnaise and the mustard, people!
Sadly Audi used to put 4-piston calipers on base A4s, A5s and Q5s. Not the case since the 2025 models' refresh. Agree with the format being too small, just like with the IS, which kept both off my contenders list. Usable size they are competing with small compacts like the A3. Too bad. Also Genesis dropped the 3.3T lower trim so it cost now $11,000 more just to get the V6.
Whatever the technology the GV70 has, cool as it is, the low buy in by the market shows that people are generally not in favour of paying a somewhat premium price for a BMW or Mercedes wannabe,. It may be cheaper by ten thousand dollars or more , but at a price range which is in the play area of the continental luxury cars, genesis will always lose out in demand.
This review is spot on.
The 2.5 has noticably more lively handling, turn in is better.
The 3.3 has the advantage off the line by a long shot though.
The 2.5 has a split second of delay while both the turbo and the torque converter spin up from a dead stop. It's small but noticable. The 3.3 is much more responsive off the line.
Brake pads issue is true, but the Brembos are super easy to change the pads on.
I went with the 3.3 but have had a 2.5 loaner.
Still no port fuel injection, just direct injection. Hyundai engines are good for 20,000 miles and then problems. Stay away.
