What They DON’T Tell You About Owning a BYD ATTO 1…

Automobiles

No doubt this video will ruffle some feathers…

This is my BRAND NEW BYD ATTO 1, also known as the BYD Dolphin Surf and BYD Seagull.

It’s Australia’s cheapest new EV, and I’ve got to be honest – I’m falling out of love with it. I’ve got a few issues with it, and in today’s video I’m here to tell you all about it.

Let’s get into it in today’s video!

  1. The problem with the SIM may come from the carrier. I have the same issues with phones too. I bought an unlocked cellphone from Amazon and could not get it to work. After doing a lot of research, I realized that the issue actually came from the carrier. They only enable a few phone models (The one I bought was not banned, but they still blocked it……WTF…..). Since it's legal (it's not a Huawei), all you have to do is to contact your carrier to enable your phone. Then your sim card will work on it. That may be what you need for the BYD cars too. Just check with your carrier.

  2. Is Australia getting a much different car than we do in the EU? I am looking at articles about the cooling/heating of the car and they all say it has liquid cooling and a heat pump.

  3. You bought a CHINESE CAR. Learn from it. Yes, the propaganda and CCP subsidies make it very tempting, but 差不多 shortcuts are systemic. Plugin hybrid, Toyota, Honda… Perfect for Australian average 60km a day + weekend roadtrips.

  4. 2 minutes in and you have said nothing! Second, Guy its a daily commute to work as cheaply as possible car. Is your travel to and from work more than 120km / 75 miles?

  5. 100% Correct BYD pre and post service and support is a total disaster, the worst of any car brand I've ever experienced. they are too busy releasing new models globally (65+) to care about support and service in back lot Australia… BYD needs to wake up and act, or be relegated to the dumpster of failed car brands. I have a Sealion 6 Premium and love it, but won't buy again or recommend to anyone based on my support and service experience. WE can't even get OTA's updates, yet alone get a service done.. or even mediocre support…

  6. I have 2 degrees in electronics and 3 years public school and I would never buy a EV.

I see two morals in this.
    1. Never buy a car without a serious test drive. Then he would have discovered the noise levels.
    2. Don't buy the first of anything. The bugs haven't been worked out yet.

I'm waiting for some energetic person to come up with a way to add batteries to your EV. Similar to Increasing power on your gas car. Maybe a custom molded battery that'll fit in some space some where to give you either more range or an emergency source when you run out in the middle of nowhere.

  7. We bought a brand new gwm Ora for $25,999 drive away after the WA rebate (no longer available). $31k drive away for a smaller lower range vehicle is not very appealing

  8. Insurance is just whack on EVs – I'm a similar age and eastern subs too, and my Polestar 4 was ~$6,000 to insure with all insurers except for one 😬

  9. Uhhh… Modern EV's DO use the AC system to cool/heat the battery. They just tend to use a heat exchanger and liquid.

All Tesla's use the AC system to heat/cool the battery.
