The Macan Electric is a hoot and a half, but it’s also worth a king’s ransom… The high price tag (easily over $100K for many configurations) and extreme levels of customization are the reason that comparisons are so hard. Literally any other EV this size is MUCH, MUCH less expensive, but for Porsche shoppers, that’s a feature, not a bug…

Without the US EV mandates Porches plans will change! EV sales will tank with Calizuela's milage tax on EVs! I see lots of NA Mecans here in Orange County!
Wait three years and buy one off lease and save 50%.
It’s completely absurd and bordering on criminal that you have to spend $112k to buy the Macan Turbo to outpace a Tesla Model Y performance or a Hyundai Ioniq 5N. Porsche has no chance selling these in China.
This interior is absolutely embarrassing at this price point. There is a reason Porsche is getting killed in every market where the Chines compete. The Germans, all of them, had better step up their interior game, and fast, if they want to stay in business. This level of materials and lack of equipment won't cut it in markets with real competition.
$80,000 & affordable you've lost me.
No NACS? No one-pedal driving? Come on, Porsche!
I’m sure it’s an absolutely beautiful vehicle to drive, however, two big short falls for me. 1) No NACS , 2) AC charging limited to 9.6kW? Really stupid. Why didn’t Porsche distinguish itself here from everyone else and put in say a 14.4 or 19.2 kW on board AC charger!
In the United States, there are many States with EV electricity plans that have a weekday short 5 to 6 hour window of highly discounted rates, which means that as EV owner you really want to be able to complete your charging within that timeframe.
Alex, thanks for the review. I really appreciate a seasoned reviewer who recognizes the differentiation that Porsche offers as well as just understands the driving dynamics differences. And avoids the“Just buy a T*” mantra.
I enjoyed our Mach-E vs Taycan range test we did ages ago. I did over 100k miles in that car. Now awaiting a MY26 Macan 4 with only 21 options 😊. Massaging seats this time, I really regretted not having that on the Taycan.
Maybe see you around the bay.

Well, being a Porsche EV once all the gremlins start popping up you will be able to get a "buy back" car for about 60% of retail. Check out the prices of 3 year old Taycans. These EVs depreciate like a rock. Think of what your $1000 (new) iPhone is worth three years later…same with EVs
Never thought I'd say I'd rather have a Hyundai (5N) over a Porsche 😅
Too expensive, but it looks great!
Porsche completely lost me as a customer. Just a few short years ago, I, a middle class fella, could walk into a Porsche dealer and spec a nice Cayman for about 75k, and it would a proper sports car. I could also get a nice 70K Macan if I wanted a family car. What do I have available to me now? A BASE model Macan that's 85k after taxes with ZERO options, or their "entry" level sports car for 140k. None of those are even remotely affordable anymore. I bet there aren't enough 1 percenters out there to keep Porsche profitable, but I guess we'll see. Ohh, and have you seen the depreciation for ALL Porsche EVs? They're absolutely, amazingly BRUTAL. Even the wealthy people don't want to lose that much cash in just a few years.
You can get a 2024 Macan 4 Electric for as low as $57k in my area. These things depreciate at an alarming rate compared to their ICE vehicles, but they make for a screaming deal on the used market.
$100k and 270kw peak charging speed?? GTFO
This is a good video; thank you. As for the Macan EV, I must say that it seems to be lovely, but the range is, well, disappointing. Mind you, the range figures we've seen for other high-end cars sometimes seem to be too optimistic.
If the 4S is almost as nice, that might be "the sweet spot". Looking forward to your "home turf" testing.
Welcome back to my PC screen Alex. 😎
I not with the Taycan wagon sorry! I look at that as a 4 door sports car. If I need cargo space, I’ll get this or the Cayenne!
Car so good Porsche bringing gas back
Why not mention the Audi Q6 Etron on the same platform, with more interior room and more cargo space, less Porsche elan.
Meh
Porsche does a great job with the Macan Electric. It looks great and has great specs. I appreciate that it has a normal instrument cluster instead of a rectangular screen and real buttons on the steering wheel. I’d like the other German manufacturers to take note of some of what Porsche is doing.
IMHO, yuck. That thing looks too similar to a Model Y. I hate that they are making these electric crossovers so bulbous. Both from a looks standpoint and the loss of practical storage in the rear. I get that is for aerodynamics to increase range but I'd sacrifice a few miles for some "real" storage.
They're going to have to find a way to drop the price of some of their EVs. That being said, the lower cost Porsche's have always been sort of "meh" in some ways. It seems like the less expensive Porsches are supposed to give you the luxury with some performance and some handling. They used that to get you hooked. ….I had a Porsche 944 25 years ago, had it for 10-12 years and I still think about it and compare things to it… haha. Maybe one day I'll trade my Optiq for a new 911 EV or something. lol
Looks like it could replace our I-Pace.
Porsche may not even be around by the end of the year
Last year, the Taycan sold 4,142 units in the US. The Macan(ICE) was Porsches best seller, at 27,139.
Have you decided to primarily focus on EVs?
Another SUPERB video Alex. O-60 in 3.18 seconds and just 96’ 60 to 0 stopping, with your rating its handling as an A. We lease a Macan Turbo EV now but this GTS would be next.
That red is HOT 🔥
