KGM — formerly Ssangyong, now KG Mobility or KGM for short — has been on a rapid fire launch program recently, adding a heap of electric and electrified models.

This is the latest – the new KGM Torres EVX, a fully electric SUV with five seats, more than 400km of range, and a battery pack from BYD.

It’s a peculiar looking thing. But it’s also well packaged and offers a good amount of interior space.

In this video I’ll show you through it, tell you what it’s like to drive, and discuss and the pricing, spec and charging info you need to know, as well as ownership and safety considerations.

NOTE: the official word from KGM is that the maximum DC rate is 164kW. But in reality it’s going to top out at 130kW or so!!

  1. I have the Torres EVX Alpha for abt 2 months now. I don't know what you are talking about when it comes to efficiency. I do get 500 – 520 Km so far. I drive with A/C on mostly, and the efficiency is at most, a steady 15 kwh/ 100 km. without AC I have checked about 13.5kwh/100km. my average speed is about 60 – 80 km/h.

  2. NMC batteries have a better energy density than LFP batteries, so will be a lower weight for a given capacity. But for a specified capacity and car weight, they are equally efficient.

  3. i did a test drive in this, the blind spots GNARLY. if hadnt driven big vans n trucks alot this thing woulda been a nightmare. i felt like a new driver again with how much i hated changing lanes haha

  4. Considering how heavy and expensive cars are nowadays, why don't more come with cloth seats without heating or cooling? I've never felt the need for either in my car with cloth seats.

  5. LFP batteries may not offer the theoretical range but it doesn't matter if you charge it to 100% so you're 20% up already on NMA/NMC batteries. That said tho this car is overpriced. Oh, and I won't buy a car from a manufacturer building a supposedly hi-tech car who can't include wireless device connection FFS! Expensive servicing for an EV too. All they do is run diagnostics and change the coolant every 2-3 years!

  6. Seems a bit thirsty. The battery warranty is good, so maybe as an overall package it's ok πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ, but without strong brand recognition, the pricing could be a problem!

  7. Looks great, but like most other EVs, Priced 10K too much. Who ever is the price consultant on EVs are are clearly out of touch and out of date. SO many other brands have dropped prices by around 10K in the last few months. Ford, Polestar, Smart. Let me guess, they won't disclose the numbers either in the monthly sales.

  8. $10,000 would buy years of petrol without range anxiety . There's a reason theses EV,s aren't succeeding. Too expensive, range anxiety, they are not free to recharge and most don't have to spare wheel. Toyota is only trying to give incentives because noone wants then.

  9. Since when is a ute more practical than a wagon for an everyday suburban breeder family?
Sheesh, Matt, give me just one example in my weekly commute to work and school and supermarkets where a ute will be in any way more practical than a wagon?
Pick up a load of loose bark chips on the way home from Woolies with the shopping bags piled up over the kids in the backseats?
I like you mate but that's just nonsense talking.
