WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?! 2026 Mazda CX-5 Review

Automobiles

Jakub and Yuri review the 2026 Mazda CX-5 on The Straight Pipes. The Mazda CX5 is putting down 187 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque from a 2.5L 4 cylinder. At $36,300 CAD, would you take it over the Honda CRV, Toyota RAV-4 or Hyundai Tucson?

  1. This will still sell because people don't want to line up for years to get a RAV4 and the dealer giving you a huge favour by selling one without markups 😅and not everyone wants an aging CRV as well.

  2. This is a 100% flop from Mazda. Sales are going to tank because of their screen decision. Whoever at Mazda made that decision to put everything on the screen is going to be looking for a new job after 2026. There is not a chance I would purchase this vehicle with that screen.

  3. As someone with an EV I prefer no buttons, pretty easy to get used imo. Anywho, this is a great redesign. Might be worth looking at when it's used.

  4. There are so many things wrong with this car! Ugly wheels, piano black plastic cladding, cheap hard plastic interior materials, lack of physical controls, no turbo …

  5. How do all of the controls work with the smaller screen on the lower trims? Are all of those “button” just smaller and even harder to use?

I really don’t understand Mazda’s decision here. I get that the auto press beat them up, unfairly, for their old rotary knob and buttons which no thought worked great. But they have to have seen Honda getting beat up about their volume knob over the past few years. They likely didn’t know about Subaru’s move back to climate controls on the new Outback until this was far into production, but still…

  6. There was a huge issue people had with the dial and the small screen not being touch screen, unless stopped .. & now everyone is mad at the updated ?? 🙄🙄🙄

The only issue I have is the rims, they look like they are rims from a Mazda MPV.

  7. You would think that Mazda of all brands would learn from others' mistakes.
Why did they think it's clever to go "all screen" 5 years after others have tried, failed and reverting back already?

  8. Jesus .. Why is everyone trying to be more and more like Tesla ? Makes it seem like the design engineers have nothing to offer but to jack others ideas.

  9. 8:33 He is not having his eyes on the road for a prolonged time. In my CX-30, the screen is just below the wind screen, also tilted towards the driver. When looking at that screen, I still have my peripheral view on the road. Also, most often than not, I can control the screen (while using the knob) while fully keeping my eyes on the road and using my peripheral view for the screen. Exactly as how Mazda said it would be safer.
