Nissan X-Trail hybrid 2026 review Australia: Does updated e-Power family SUV have Toyota RAV4 beat?

Automobiles

The recently updated 2026 Nissan X-Trail Ti-L e-Power is put under the microscope by CarsGuide reviewer Byron Mathioudakis. This flagship hybrid SUV pairs a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with a dual-motor e-Power system that drives the wheels electrically, delivering strong combined outputs and all-wheel drive capability. Byron runs through where the Ti-L sits in the X-Trail range and what the latest update brings to design, tech and safety.

Inside, the 2026 Nissan X-Trail Ti-L e-Power offers five-seat practicality, a large digital instrument cluster, widescreen infotainment and premium trim highlights. We examine rear-seat space, boot capacity and family friendly features, along with how it stacks up against rivals such as the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and Honda CR-V e:HEV.

On the road, Byron assesses refinement, performance and efficiency in urban traffic and on the highway. The review also covers ride comfort, handling and overall value for Australian buyers.

  1. Κάτι σαν να άκουσα ότι το επίθετό σου είναι Ελληνικό. Κάτι σε -άκης ακούω αλλά δεν μπορώ να καταλάβω ακριβώς. Πολύ ωραία δουλειά ❤

  2. I am not agreeing or disagreeing with the video. Anyway, it is good to have stiff competition to Toyota so that they will keep the prices in check.

  3. No-one that has done their research and test drives, is buying an X-Trail e-Power… over a Rav4 Hybrid or Jaecoo J7. Between those 2 vehicles, they have cornered the mid-size SUV market from all angles.

  4. No spare tyre, doesn't have the towing capacity of the petrol model which no one talks about, lower ground clearance and runs on 95ron. Also when the battery is low you lose power. These flaws for me couldn't be overlooked. So went for the 2.5L TiL. Powerful enough, 2000kg towing with 200kg over the ball. Better than most. On freeway runs i have seen a best of 5.5L per 100kms on 91ron.

I really don't see an advantage in the power model. I was hoping for ventilated seat like the Mitsubishi version.

All said, i like my petrol xtrail very much. Interior is fantastic and drives really nice without all that over engineered tech of the epower.

  5. I don’t understand the point of this car. It uses more fuel than the standard x trail due to the weight of its battery. The battery can only be charged using the engine I believe, so it’s not a hybrid, it’s an EV. What’s the benefit of this car over a hybrid ?

  6. why do none of the reviewers discuss the E power issues that Nissan has been suffering with for a couple of years already. Forums are bursting with complaint about that but in the review it's always the best.

  7. Had a 2010 T32 STL for 8 years and it was very reliable, comfortable and could tow 2tonne with 200 kgs on the ball. CVT was a bit sluggish to be sure but was still a great car

  8. I've owned a 2024 Ti-L e-Power X-Trail in New Zealand for 2 years. Great car EXCEPT for the very noisy, coarse sounding engine that constantly comes on to power the battery. I don't notice it at highway speeds because of road noise but it is very intrusive at 50 kph or less on city streets. It is the noisiest engine I've ever owned. The dealer said mine is typical and not defective. Besides that, great interior, decent power, nice design.

  9. Got the first refresh including new body and e-power. Still love getting in it. My ONLY gripe is the chairs are a bit narrow. I'm a skinny guy but at 6'6" I'm wide enough to feel the sides of the bottom but looking at this video they've addressed it! Nice. If you grab one, enjoy the complete ease of electric with no range anxiety. Great vehicle.

  10. What another missed opportunity by Nissan. The e models are enemic and 2 expensive for a non PHEV layout with no petrol assist.
