Software changes have made this a FAR better EV than before. Subscribe here: www.youtube.com/@therightcar?sub_confirmation=1
The updated Geely EX5 scores a bigger battery with more EV driving range too, but in my earlier review, it had some shortcomings…

But now, there have been HUGE improvements to the software, with a massive upgrade to the ownership and driving experience.
You now get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and there’s a SWEET little safety configuration shortcut to make it less tedious to live with!

The battery chemistry does not affect efficiency! Please stop saying that. Efficiency is determined by drivetrain, aerodynamics and tyres.
The battery chemistry determines the energy density of the battery. LFP has a lower energy density so the battery is heavier for the same kWh, or more likely, you get fewer kWh for the same weight. LFP has other advantages though. It had a longer lifetime, and can be charged to 100% more frequently without affecting the lifetime of the battery. LFP is also safer, cheaper and has no nickel and cobalt. Almost all the cheaper Chinese EVs moved to LFP chemistry a while ago for these reasons.
Really wanted to buy one but it was way too floaty in the test drive. Like a hobby horse in traffic. If that was better we would buy it. Also Atto 3 test drive the car was in the blazing sun and the outgassing made us ill. Mad headaches. Probs better if it was a cooler day for the test drive.
There's NO dual climate control!
Does it have outdoor speakers? How about Sentry?
the new Atto 3 beats the new Ex5 in most categories..
Price of petrol good time to own an EV.
Updated the ADAS settings on our Starray and it seems to keep the settings selected even after turning car off, locking it and coming back! So lane assist etc turned off stays that way for a short time! Does need to be activated again after a longer period – looks to be maybe 10 minutes? Plus the speed reduction around curves seems to have either been reduced or removed completely (longer drive needed to confirm). Woohoo! Gotta love OTA Updates!
I took this for a test drive. Loved the looks and built quality over all. One of the downside in most of the Chinese cars is no lumbar support. I would rather have lumbar support than massage function. Also the so called premium sound system is no way near premium. It had scratchy sound and was not dynamic at all, sound quality was horrible. Also the car wobbles and steering wheel vibrating or shaking when driving more than 100kms an hour on highway.
No spare is deal breaker
I bought an ex demo Inspire in September and hit 10,000km last week. This new update is good, but didn't go far enough. ALL the poorly calibrated ADAS systems need to be on the new menu/shortcut. The emergency braking is particularly bad and interjects for no reason, all too often. Suspension is also soggy and needs better springs or shocks or something. On a positive note, interior is very pleasant place to be, audio system is epic, no squeaks or rattles, all seems very solid, rolling acceleration is mighty impressive for a family SUV, and overall packaging is good with plenty of space for child seats and luggage etc etc. Let's see if they can give us one more decent OTA update before too long.
Seems pointless commenting on the looks – all the Chinese alternatives look almost the same as each other.
Are RWD EVs rear heavy like rear engined ICE cars?
Guessing the heavy battery in the middle nulls all that out?
Interestingly EV sales are 13% of the total new-car market but 60% of the car review market.
Even with an uptake in sales I can't see them all surviving in such a small market.
2027 will be interesting to see who's still in the game with what models.
Thx matt, another great review from the best on youtube
the only reason i leave the safety sytems on is because i have a VW tcross and they don't annoy me. if i had one of these i might. sorry would
pretty good energy use compared to some.
100kwh is crap. no thanks geely
The only feature I'd aspire for is a heat pump — only for efficiency.
charge point location is a dealbreaker for me
Geely ex5 or Leepmotor B10 which is best ??
No wheel no deal!!!!
worst of three worlds:
1) SUV
2) Electric
3) Chinese
….
Need more Subaru reviews please 🥺❤
Tow kit, can I get a tow kit ? The last one the dealer said the tow rating was coming, it still has not, so I’m hoping this model offers one
GAC Aion V
Sounds good, but I'd choose the MG ES5 – this is RWD and has sensible door handles, also actual tiedowns in the back.
I purchased my EX5 last year. It’s a great car. I love driving it. Just did a big 12 day road trip from NSW to SA and back via the Barrier Highway. Not sure if I’d pay the extra $$ for a few extra kms range in the new model. The drive setup with the latest OTA works well.
Will you suggest GAC AION V as an alternative?
No glove box!
Why is the accelerator pedal offset so far to the left? Are they expecting us to use our left foot to apply the brake? Terrible design.
Still no frunk 😂😂 rather buy Atto2
