The NEW Toyota Fortuner Is Looking VERY GOOD!! (But It Might Be TOO LATE…)

Automobiles

The NEW Toyota Fortuner has been spotted testing overseas – and it’s looking sharper than ever.

Today Matt from CarSauce breaks down everything we know about the next-generation Fortuner, which is shaping up to be a major facelift rather than an all-new model. It keeps the familiar 2.8-litre turbo-diesel (150kW / 500Nm in Australia), but is likely to add the new 48V mild-hybrid system seen in the latest HiLux.

With updated styling, a redesigned interior inspired by the new HiLux, upgraded suspension and steering tweaks, and the addition of modern ADAS tech, the Fortuner is finally catching up. But is it enough?

We’ll talk powertrains, the mild-hybrid system, interior changes, platform updates, NVES pressure, why Toyota Australia isn’t planning to bring it here, and whether the Fortuner still makes sense in a world dominated by the Ford Everest and the new Prado.

Is this the Fortuner we’ve been waiting for… or is it simply too close to Prado to survive in Australia?

Let’s break it down.

  1. Toyota Australia is like Mitsubishi Australia missing the boat all the time 😂😂😂 Aussie want delica Mitsubishi Australia NO u can have the low spec van of it . Aussie want Toyota surf and 4runner NO u can have fourtuner😂.

  2. As a 4×4 suspension development engineer, I'm going to have to correct you in your description of the rear suspension of the Fortuner. While it does have coil springs in the rear, the rear suspension is not independent. Before you say "I meant individual coils on each side," the same type of thing can be said of leaf sprung rear ends, and for the most part, the days of one spring being used to support both sides have long gone (the potential exception being torsion bar rear suspension, where it's possible to have one torsion bar held in the middle and twisted independently at both ends – I don't follow what happens in small cars, so I don't care about the details of such systems). When "independent" is used in reference to suspension, it means what happens on the left doesn't affect what happens on the right, with the exception of the effect of sway bars. The Fortuner, having a live axle rear end, does not have an independent rear suspension.

These details are very basic and they matter when describing vehicles. Please ensure that you get them right. Getting them right is a "cost of entry" into automotive journalism: it's an expectation, not an option.

  3. Its just a facelift to keep prices down and with lots of people going onto chinese cars the other makers are battling…Toyota is protecting their own interest and future. The old Fortuner is not as bad as journalists make it out to be…i have learnt not to take any opinions of any journalists seriously anymore

  4. 5:00 tbh I think Toyota now is becoming complacent, and unfortunately the customers are allowing it. In markets such as Southern Africa, I have noticed that whenever there is a minor refresh of the Hilux of the Fortuner, people will flock to buy it in massive numbers. I have never understood that, and Toyota unfortunately has realized that the formula works. That is why we are seeing the same thing here with no new design at all. IMO the Hilux and the Fortuner are just okay cars, and they are strong and reliable. But in terms of quality of interior as well as features, like mentioned in this video that are far better options.
