The Toyota Camry is essentially the only D-segment saloon left, following the departure of the Honda Accord, Nissan Teana, Volkswagen Passat among many others. But rather than slipping away quietly into the night, UMW Toyota is keeping the Camry alive with the latest generation and, for the first time in a long while, stuck a hybrid system in it too. We take Toyota’s flagship hybrid saloon out for a spin to size it up against the dwindling competition.

Non-turbocharged D-segment sedan/saloon, love it! I own the 2009 Toyota Camry 2.4V, yet it's still awesome!
So the latest Camry
– Extremely refined ride: TNGA chassis + hybrid powertrain = quiet, smooth, effortless cruising.
– Fuel efficiency: real-world hybrid economy is the main selling point; Toyota’s hybrid system is famously reliable.
– Executive comfort: cabin materials, NVH, and rear-seat comfort feel “one class above” for many buyers.
– Safety suite: full Toyota Safety Sense, blind spot monitoring, RCTA, multiple airbags, and stability systems.
– Low-maintenance hybrid system: Toyota hybrids have a strong reliability track record.
Perfect for
– Drivers who want comfort, refinement, and fuel savings over performance.
– Long-distance commuters (like Johor to SL/KL) who value quietness and low fatigue.
– Owners who want a premium feel without luxury-brand maintenance costs.
– Families needing a reliable, safe, and spacious sedan.
Compares to alternatives
– Mazda 6: more engaging drive, more expensive ~RM240,000, quite an older platform, and no hybrid.
– Infiniti Q50: more power, RWD, but higher running cost.
– Mercedes A-Class Sedan: badge appeal, smaller interior, pricier variants.
– Toyota Camry 2.5V (non-hybrid): slightly cheaper but less efficient and less refined
It is now positioned as a semi-luxury hybrid cruiser rather than a mainstream D‑segment sedan. At ~RM221,800, it’s not about value, but it’s about refinement, reliability, and long-term cost savings. For buyers who want a stress-free, quiet, and efficient daily car, it’s one of the best-balanced choices in the segment.
I just switched off. Toyota needs bring in the BZ series
God, I seriously hate modern Toyota interiors man. Bring back those mid 2000s interior. Even my Camry ACV40’s (2008) interior looks more luxurious, and that car was RM160K when I bought it new
If I have a chauffeur, I would definitely buy this car😅
Very much overpriced. Even the price cut by half, I will not buy it. The glory of Japanese car is over.
As a owner of XV70 Facelift, I strongly agree with your opinion about the car.
The spec sheets is nothing, I only looks at how well the car is balanced and polished, and this camry is among the best, not to mention her crazy reliability
I am a car SA myself, come across and tested a lot of cars, and this camry is really something worth buying and driving 😂
Am a proud owner of the XV70 facelift with dynamic force engine. I still think this model looks more handsome than the current hammerhead design. Nevertheless always great to hear your review Aiman. I appreciate your in depth reviews as always.
Just love you reviews – totally mesmerising!
Handsome car indeed. Superb NVH, polished drive, cool sound system & and solid engine reliability.
However,
1. Rear seats can't be folded down. Quite an important feature especially when travelling to the airport with loads of baggage and carrying golf bags.
2. Hybrid saves petrol in short term, but in the long run, the hybrid system repair can cost upto 16k (battery 9k and inverter 7k by Toyota). Does it actually save?
3. Groaning CVT
4. Unreliable screen – toyota even recalled many camry's.
5. Sensors malfunction – quite common on high variant of Toyota cars.
Yes, cars are never perfect. If the price was like 40k lower, i wouldn't complain at all and would buy 1. Really love the looks! 😅😅
Why is he not speaking Malay?
Is it more comfortable than the Harrier?
What about sound insulation, how does it sound when u knock on the side door…solid or hollow?
Fantastic review! This is a car that will truly stand the test of time, and you can feel confident knowing you’ve spent your hard-earned money wisely.
Camry equipped safety sense 3.0 not 2.0
Camry, 500,000 km easily.
2.5L NA engine for a car !?What a nonesense! better go for byd Seal or Tesla model 3
Can we say the Chinese still have 5-7 years to achieve seamless hardware tuning and cohesion?
Still A Lovely and Handsome Car…Too bad we didn’t get the brown interior as an option where this car is assembled and compared to SG where this car is imported from Japan…I think we lost out on the Nanoe A/C as well as the headlamp washer
No kedai tomyam lights?
Just shut up and take my money!
Finally, a proper review on the new Camry in Malaysia. One of the best reviewer who dont look down on Japanese and Korean cars. Nowadays most reviewers boasting so much on Chinese cars just because cheaper price with a lot of goodies. Not about the driving capabilities.
Toyota Hammerhead design language looks so cool 😎 Thank you for the coverage Aiman, nicely done 🙌
It's the best y'all; it's replete, with everything!
